Technology
LIFX uses the master / slave concept to connect to your home router via 802.11n and then to all other LIFX smart LEDs via the 802.15.4 network. Each LIFX can connect to all national power systems from 110v to 260v. This includes the US, Canada, England, Germany, France, Australia and 95% of other countries in the world.
Your light switch needs to be maintained so that the smartbulb is accessible by the LIFX application. However, you can use any light switch to turn on and off smartbulbs just like you would with a traditional light bulb.
LIFX uses networks. The use of standby light power of each light bulb is very small, in fact, AA batteries will keep a LIFX smartbulb in standby mode for about 1-2 years. [Note: The main light bulb requires WiFi connection to use about 2-3 watts. Only need 1 main light bulb in each family / office.]
LIFX prototype uses COB phosphorus LEDs with approximate size. equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent light bulb or 50 watt downlight halogen lamp.
